We have developed a new version of AOL Desktop for Mac in order to provide you with an improved AOL Mail experience. We highly recommend that you upgrade to AOL Desktop for Mac 1.7 as soon as possible to ensure that you do not experience any interruptions in your ability to send or receive AOL Mail. Please be aware that during your upgrade, you may experience an initial period where your mail loads slowly. Don't fret though - this should only occur once.
Welcome to the Mac@AOL Blog. My name is Lee Givens and I'm the Product Lead for the Mac and iPhone products at AOL. You can find the latest information on AOL's software development on the Mac and any cool happenings at AOL. The purpose of the blog is to create a feedback loop so we can hear from our loyal AOL Mac users. Managing a blog is a lot of work, so I enlisted support from the whole team...the Mac team is made up of dedicated Macintosh developers, QA engineers and Product folks.

62. I'm ready to give up on this AOL for Mac. My mail loads so S L O W L Y...... I have used AOL for years but this is ridiculous. I have to keep rebooting or going to Safari to get my mail. I see that others have complained about this for a while. Any progress on a fix??

63. looking for feedback and help please!!!
computer is mac ibook with tiger 10.4...os, dial up connection
aol for desktop 1.7.
PROBLEM: im window pops up stating we're signed on in multiple locations. Before can react to message regarding choose 1 to sign off those other locations, we get booted and disconected.
TO DATE: have set aim prefs to minimal, away message, etc. We do not have any buddies listed , nor ever use the aim, Tech suport call resulted in having us throw out our aol preferences in the library folder, with no effect or change. Didn't have this issue with staying connected on the prior aol for mac osx.
Does anyone have this problem and possible solutions. In reading hte bogs postings I can see this version of AOL is problematic. PLEASE HELP!
thanks..Gavmann@aol.com

64. Hello... Is anyone at AOL monitoring these comments? I've seen lots of very negative posts and not one response from AOL.
I started using AOL Desktop for Mac when I got a new machine (OS X) in 2008. I was very happy with AOL Desktop, especially the way it organized my e-mails in different accounts (user names) -- much better than Apple's Mail program. My only complaint was that sometimes AOL Desktop was slow in fetching my e-mails.
I was using an older version, I think I was still on 1.2, and never upgraded beyond that until I got the notice in December saying I HAD to upgrade to 1.7. At that time i was very wary about the upgrade given all the negative comments I saw on this blog -- and never a reply from AOL.
After the upgrade everything still went OK, except opening my mail seemed slightly slower than it used to be.
Then 2 days after Christmas I was unable to open ANY e-mails in ANY of my accounts. I could see them in the list but they just said "Message Content Loading." Forever. To read them I had to use Safari and log in to AOL webmail. I kept trying AOL Desktop all day and no luck at all. I was able to send one e-mail and then that stopped working, too.
I spent hours migrating all my old e-mails to Apple Mail. It was very frustrating -- I still don't have everything set up the way I'd like it. And I still have to copy a lot of my Address Book entries to the new program. But at least I AM able to read and send e-mails!
AOL, you're shooting yourselves in the foot with this one! The user fee you collect from us is only a small part of your revenue. Most of your income comes from selling ads in the panels at the bottom of the e-mails, or ads that go with the news stories and cute features that I saw when I logged on. Guess what -- now that I'm using Apple Mail, I never see those ads, or the news stories and features, either!
Oh, and having spent hours getting my new Apple Mail system working -- I'm NOT going back!

66. This newest version (1.7) crashes a lot. The biggest issue I had with the previous non-beta version (1.5) is that it was inconsistent with managing email. This newer version seems to have addressed that issue but what good is fixing email functionality if the software itself is unreliable. It seems be related to Flash because I only notice this happening when I'm at a site that's flash based or uses Flash container as and audio/video player like playlist.com, youtube, etc. At this point, I'm Really losing hope in AOL and the sad thing, well, stupid on my part, is that I'm still paying for the service.

67. When are you going to get an AOL product that works as well on the mac as the pc. Mac users have to use a very inferior product. The mail portion of Desktop for Mac works some of the time. Very frustrating

68. Using 1.7.722. I see my problem is the same as many of you other disappointed in AOL for MAC users. At least I know I'm not crazy and I'm not alone. I have trouble reading my mail, the uploading message stays on many times and the message never comes up. Sometimes when I'm in that situation and I hit "Reply" while waiting for the upload the email may appear....but not always. In order to read my message at a particular email address of mine on aol I must switch screen names and then when I go back to the one I want to read most of the time it will load. When new mail opens my system just keeps going through the loop. Their ads at the bottom of the emails have no trouble appearing though. So wondering what's up with this?

70. Using 1.7.722 my next problem is also a common one. So glad I found this blog and found out my problems are not exclusive. I guess if I found this out a while ago I would have given up a long time ago. I just hate doing so since I have been with AOL since the getgo and just can't notify everyone who may have this address. So the next problem is TRASH. Can someone tell me how to empty your trash on the new aol desktop. I just can't delete trash. Is there anyone at AOL listening? Does anyone at AOL care?

71. Unable to delete trash on AOL 1.7 & my iMAC. Sometimes I can get lucky and delete a couple.

72. Here's what most needs repeating & repeating with each failed version of AOL for Mac. It's THE most important question here. Val, 5-star questioner, asks it very succinctly: "I just want to know why AOL on a Mac has to be SO different and SO much worse than AOL on a PC?" (Nov. 3, 2010). She has hit THE nail on THE head, and what she asks can't be repeated long or often enough for Mac users who learned their AOL on PC's years ago and can't begin to fathom why this is an unbreakable pattern that frustrates us, but apparently not AOL, year after year. Can it be that whatever the year, those who design a newer AOL-for-Mac are forbidden to use the Windows version first? From the results, what else can we believe? Thus, the LAST question of the mystified: Can this really happen so many times? Surely someone will see the problem and ... but apparently nobody ever does, and all eyes are closed to the frustration it leaves behind. Over and over, Rip Van Winkle does NOT wake up.

73. I have a downloaded the new AOL Desktop onto two new Apple Imacs and have multiple problems including:
1. It often (not always) takes a long time to open messages (message loading takes forever). This is absurd. I opened all messages immediately 5 years ago. Sometimes a message opens, them 5 minutes later it does not open. I do not have the time the sit around waiting.
2. I can not Save or Save as to my desktop ( it is grayed out)
3. I cannot save documents to AOL Save--sometimes they show up and other times they do not. I need to be able to save so I can pick these up on any computer

74. I just want to go back to AOL Classic! There is no 'Back to Classic' link provided on this new AOL welcome screen, which I truly hate.
