For all the AIM for Mac 1.5 Beta 3 testers, you should start to receive your automatic update AppCast soon (if not, you can always use the "Check for Updates..." under the AIM menu item.
As we wrap up development for
AIM for Mac 1.5, here's a list of features we delivered in the past 3 Beta releases:
- AIM conversation logging (saved AIM conversations) with Mac OS X Spotlight searching
- Growl notification support
- You can also see if your Buddies updated their social network status from a variety of social networks and RSS feeds
- Custom Buddy Icons from your iSight camera or a graphic file on your Mac
- AIM for Mac Welcome Window
- Custom Group Row colors
We've even optimized AIM for Mac's file size (it's now 30% smaller than AIM for Mac 1.1) and fixed a bunch of bugs and resolved connectivity issues. Please take a look at the Fixed Issues and Changes list (below) and please continue to
send feedback.
Note for Beta 2 Users: Users testing Beta 3 will be able to use the automated upgrade system (AIM>Check for Updates...). Users moving up from Beta 2 will need to download AND install Beta 4 directly using the 'Download Beta 4' button above.

1. I am trying to reach Lee Givens or anyone else on the Mac Development team for AOL Desktop but cannot seem to be able to do so. It is frustrating to spend the time testing and reporting issues without any direct communication from you - despite your invitation to let you know what's not working. SO I am going to try it one more time and I would appreciate hearing back from Lee or others at AOL as to whether they know of these issues and whether they intend to fix them. First, for AOL DESKTOP MAC - you cannot import more than one PFC file ever since each import overwrites the previous one. For those of us who used more than one Mac at a time, this prevents us from ever consolidating our emails into the new product. Second, and MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING ELSE, you cannot move mail from ON AOL to ON MY MAC (or vice versa) at all! I tried to move 300 messages and it took 4 hours to copy 7 items before it gave up. I am lost as to how you could GM this release knowing this is not fixed. Without any credible way to back up emails locally, this software is unusable. On the AOL DESKTOP PC, you can move emails fine between ON AOL and ON MY PC, and you can import (append) as many PFC files as you like, but on the PC it REDATES all older email (from circa 1998) to an arbitrary date in 1979!!!! Again, this is a serious bug which I cannot seem to get anyone to acknowledge. Please email me with some kind of response to these bugs so I can have confidence in these products. I think this is the least I am entitled to for testing this software and spending my time helping you make it better. prefnet@aol.com

2. Are we ever going to get access to User chat rooms through aol desktop....... There hasn't been an update to aol desktop in a while on your blog so i thought i would check. The aim chat rooms are awful.
--------------------------------
Hello,
I understand how you feel about the traditional AOL Chat Rooms. The AOL Chat folks have migrated most of the same chat rooms to the new, new AIM Chat. So if it's been a while, check back again to see what you think of the newly redesigned AIM Chat...

3. Is there anyway you can allow users to control when and how long they wish to go idle, similar to Adium and Pigin? Also, it would be nice if you could allow users to sign on invisible.
--------------------------------
Hello,
I'll check with the team to see if we can set the idle time on the client-side. Log in as invisible is a very nice feature...stay tuned :)
Thanks!

4. Who ever added the chat logging. I sincerely from the bottom of my heart love you. ALL the other AIM clients don't have the option to turn off showing if I'm typing a message, but AIM for mac didn't log chats. It was a fierce battle between the two. "Do I want to log chats more?" "Do I want extra privacy?"
It was an endless loophole to choose between them. I ended up choosing no logging, and hiding my typing. Wise choice. I am so happy I sent AOL a message saying I wanted this, then notice the blog link in the help tab. mmmmm To see this now makes my heart sing with joy. I love you, whoever you are, who did this. I love you.....

5. I'd like to follow up on Drew's comment of 5/20. The AIM chats are truly awful. The wrong profiles come up half the time, and you can't see who is chatting unless you enter a room--at least I haven't figured out how. The whole Bebo format just overreaches--too busy, too much information solicited. People have Facebook for that if they want it. But that's just my opinion. I'd be happy if I could simply have access to regular ol' profiles and the list of chatters in a room. That seems to be a simple fix.

6. Within the last day, I'm unable to use AOL 1.5 for Mac Desktop. Within seconds after logging in the program crashes. I get "The Application AOL has unexpectedly Quit". Yes, I have uninstalled the program using your recommended steps and reinstalled, nothing helps! I have the latest versions of OS X and 1.5 Please help!

7. Why won't my e-mail contacts appear in this version? Before I upgraded my Mac, my contacts were on AOL, but now they're gone. What gives?

8. I am having the same problem as Gary Spinella above. I updated from OS 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 yesterday, I'm wondering if that caused the issue? I uninstalled/reinstalled about 5 times, it's finally working now, although it freezes for about a minute after login.

9. Problems with Desktop for Mac (I'm using OS 10.5.7):
E-mail: 1) I cannot "save" an e-mail to my OS file.
2) When I "attach" a file (pdf or jpeg) the system pastes it into the e-mail body.
Favorites: My favorites list is not alpha and the system won't sort it automatically. I was told by tech support to manually sort it. Duh!
Address book: When my address book copied from AOL Classic, an entry with CFF xxx followed by an entry with CFF yyy disappeared or was overwritten.
Life would be better by going back to AOL Classic, if you cannot improve this system.

10. I'm not sure if this has been covered somewhere else, but I cannot get my screen names to link in AIM for Mac version 1.5. My current OS is 10.5.7. Maybe I"m just not looking in the right menus, but this is really confusing to me.

11. AIM 4.7 reports 'you are using the most recent version'... when checked, might want to fix that, Maybe more people would realize there is a new version out.. seeing how there was a version 1.0 and now 1.5 and soon to be 2.0.

12. I'm using 1.5.129 and however many emails it says I have when I sign on, it doesn't update to reflect the new number once I've read them. This didn't happen with 1.5.127 or anything before that.

13. I'm using AOL Desktop for Mac with OS 10.4.11. I'm unable to consistently print e-mails, web pages print fine. I've tried trashing the Preferences com.aol.aoldesktop.acs.plist, om.aol.aoldesktop.plist and com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist and restarted AOL Desktop. Sometimes I can print e-mails after the initial sign-in but rarely after subsequent sign-ins. I've trashed the entire program and re-downloaded it and reinstalled it with no improvement. I use Safari 4.0 for general web browsing and when I sign on to AOL using Safari, everything prints just fine. Any new ideas on how to correct this bug?
