This fall is shaping up to be an exciting one. The AOL Mac team will be releasing a number of new applications at AOL Beta Central. In the meantime, I would like to share with the AOL Mac Team what AOL applications you would like to see on the Mac. Please leave a comment below and I'll share with the team.
Thanks!

Welcome to the Mac@AOL Blog. My name is Lee Givens and I'm the Product Lead for the Mac and iPhone products at AOL. You can find the latest information on AOL's software development on the Mac and any cool happenings at AOL. The purpose of the blog is to create a feedback loop so we can hear from our loyal AOL Mac users. Managing a blog is a lot of work, so I enlisted support from the whole team...the Mac team is made up of dedicated Macintosh developers, QA engineers and Product folks.

2. Would like to see larger font size in mailbox.
" " " " an address book that does not jump around!
Would like to manually change the order of address book names.
Better spam control.

3. AIM. I'm not crazy about iChat. AIM 4.7 is five years old. Adium is currently my default chat app.
That said, if AIM were to be updated, true A/V support would be especially nice.

5. In my opinion, AOL should develop a kind of iTools : sync, Xdrive which could be mounted on the desktop etc
I'm very excited by all the products you'll release ;)

6. It would be great if you could add McAfee Internet Security Suite-Special edition from AOL for MACs like you have for PCs.
----------------------------
Hello!
With no known viruses in the wild, I'm not sure how many Mac users would need a full security suite. I would love to see more phishing protection when logging in with a standard AOL account. If you have a parentally controlled account (go to http://parentalcontrols.aol.com for more info), you will get the full AOL network protection against phishing and hacking sites.
Thanks...

Please.

8. Mac users need a new version of AIM. I don't like iChat too well, and AIM hasn't been updated since 4.7!

9. Just fix all the e-mail problems before working on new stuff.

10. Hiya! :-)
An updated version of the AOL Toolbar for the new v3 of Firefox would be nice for those of us who don't wish to use AOL Desktop for Mac. Any plans for this?

Hello!
I sent your comment to our toolbar team. Thanks for using AOL Desktop for Mac.
Thanks...

11. Can you tell me why it takes forever to load the AOL home page and to log in. It takes soooooooo long that I Force Quit and do not use AOL. Thanks

12. This is too slow to use. Do you actually want to lose customers? I am at the point where I'm ready to log off forever. Accessing mail is way, WAY too slow. Before you start working on some new fancy addition, maybe you could work on the actual speed and usability.

13. Please give us a frequently updated standalone AIM.app (aka AIM lite) client for downloading, JUST for IM capabilities. Many of us do not like AOL Desktop and don't want a full fledged thing with all the bells and whistles. We just want a good solid, feature rich IM client. Please update AIM.app (AIM lite) more often and publish it to the normal AIM site as well, the old 4.7 is years old and needs to be replaced with an official updated AIM release (kept updated frequently like the Windows release of AIM is!)

Hello!
Stay tuned in the next few weeks on the Mac@AOL blog.
Thanks...

14. Unfortunately, AIM is absolutely not represented nor used in Europe (MSN monopolistic state).
I guess that a more solid and rich featured Desktop AIM client would help to change that situation, at least for European Mac users which are more and more numerous.

Hello!
Most of the team would love to see a new AIM for Mac. Stay tuned :)
As for MSN, not sure if MS would like it if we added it to our product :)
Thanks...

18. IMO, You guys are hitting all the highlights. I remember when AOL was < v2.0, before the Web Browser was added. Mac was well-supported in those days. Recently, the new openness at AOL (Free IMAP!) has brought me back in. I've complained in the past about AOL's poor mac support and customer service practices, but the new model has definitely caught my attention. I'm the family computer guru, so my opinion is my extended family's opinion. We use Macs because they work, are clean, and bring a smile to our faces.
The new AOL Radio is wonderful (using 2.0 beta) and while I'm not a big AOL Desktop user, I've been following it closely and feel like it has addressed the biggest shortcoming of the old full-version AOL using IE rendering engine (yuck!).
Here's my short list of wants (Prioritised on a scale of 1 (low) - 10):
* [10] AIM Pro, cross-platform support from WebEx
* [9] Synchronize Calendar and Contacts with Mac OS Sync Services
* [8] Bring Back Photos! and integrate with iPhoto (Am I the only one who loved AOL Pictures?)
* [7] Email Stationary
* [6] 1st class AIM client that can share "expressions" and other fun UI candy available in Windows (Expressions support seems somewhat implemented in 1.2.1)
* [2] We may not need it, but McAffee Security Suite would be nice (at least as an option)
The most important request I would make, that would be a leap-frog over iChat desktop sharing, would be integrated WebEx Desktop sharing. This would be a super-sticky use of AIM or AOL Desktop for Mac because you could be sure I would make sure my entire family had it so when they called and asked for "remote support" I would be able to help them right from AIM Pro, which is sadly lacking on the Mac.
AOL Radio is the most important to me personally, and is the primary reason I've started using AOL again. If you keep working on it, making it even better and better, and keep it as a stand-alone, desktop application you will keep my attention for long into the future.
The single most important feature that you don't already have on the Mac is AIM Pro, with integrated desktop sharing. If you could add that to the Mac, with cross-platform desktop sharing (WebEx Support Mac, Win, and Lin) the AIM Pro for Mac OS would be the killer AIM client for the Mac and would insure that my entire family had a current AOL/AIM screen name.
Integrate the AIM Pro with my iCal calendar that is kept in sync with my AOL Calendar and AOL Address book and you've got one amazing, killer app. Add a plug-in architecture to that supports the major IM clients (MSN, Yahoo, Skype, etc) and you are my new IM Client. (Why not buy Adium and add WebEx to that?).
Great work Guys! Keep it up. AOL Mac Developers are heroes!

19. I would like an app similar to http://quickshareit.com which is Mac only and a delight to use to store files… something like that aimed to use with AOL free storage would be rather cool IMHO.
I would love to see the AOL Desktop client sporting a new face, sort of a two or three pane iTunes UI everyone is mimicking nowadays. Where iTunes has the Music, TV shows, Radio… items listed, the AOL client could place every service AOL offers to us the customers. If well done and not crowded it would show a good commitment to the Mac world.

20. OK...so I'm wondering if it would be possible to be able to add Yahoo! and MSN contacts to our AIM lists. I wish that I didn't have to have like 3 different IM Programs. I hate Yahoo! and MSN, but some of my best friends use them, so I have to have them in order to talk to them. Please, I just wish AIM could be used to communicate with them.
And I know we have AOL Desktop for Mac, which is nice, and I've been using it since the first Beta release. However, my Mum uses AOL 9.1 on her PC and I love it. I've always missed using that 'classic' AOL Interface, is there any possible way you could update AOL for Mac OS X, or in fact, you could add a 'Classic Skin' to AOL Desktop. I also think it would be interesting to have some more Bebo integration, I mean now that AOL owns it, it should be more heavily advertised on AOL. I would like to have like, a Bebo window in AOL Desktop, telling me my messages and updates when I log in. Maybe add Bebo IMing, so we can IM our Bebo friends.
You asked for ideas, so here are some...:D
Josh;)
-----------------------------------
Hello Josh,
Thanks for the comments. Since we own Bebo, building in support is something we're currently reviewing. As for MSN and Yahoo!, we're looking into this as well, but it's not as easy as Bebo.
thanks...
