Welcome to Feedback Friday on the Mac@AOL blog. What's feedback Friday? We're making sure the AOL Mac Team stays in touch with the Mac community and on most occasions we'll talk about products we're developing or general topics
du jour from the world of Macintosh. We'll scour the message boards and blogs for issues that concern our users.
Today's topics come from the
AOL Beta Central message boards for the
AOL Desktop for Mac beta.
AOL Desktop Browser, what's the rendering engine? The AOL Desktop for Mac uses the same browsing engine found on every Mac -
WebKit. WebKit powers Safari and the Safari browser on the iPhone so it's been well tested. Apple has released WebKit to the open source community where it's being built into a wide array of products - but it's lineage comes from the
KDE team's KHTML browser engine. So when Apple upgrades the OS, WebKit gets upgraded and all software using WebKit will benefit.
Do you have any screen shots of AOL Desktop for Mac?Well, yes we do. Here's a screen shot of the entire desktop:

Can I import my old PFC (personal filing cabinet)? We are planning on introducing an Import Mail function in the next beta (coming soon!) so get your Mac PFCs ready and we'll take care of importing. For those of you who switched from Windows to the Mac, you won't be able to import your AOL for Windows PFCs but stay tuned...
Can't launch AOL Radio app from toolbar - aol:// links don't work?
Some embedded links in http://welcome.aol.com aren't connected, but we're working on it and will have an update in a future beta. We're also looking into launching
AOL Radio for Mac directly from the toolbar. BTW, if you haven't tried it,
AOL Radio for the Mac is a free, fully universal application that will stream
XM Radio and dozens of
AOL radio stations directly to your Mac.
Where's my favorite feature? (pop-up blocking, set away message in IM, Command-W to close a browser tab, AOL Chat, multiple mail accounts, IMAP/POP3 accounts, etc...)The AOL Mac Team is working hard to get all the popular features our users come to expect. We wanted to get Beta 1 out as soon as we can so we can start the communication process. On the AOL Beta Central site, you will see updates to the
Known Issues and
Fixed Issues so make sure you stop by when we post a new beta. So please keep your comments and feedback coming!
Have a great weekend!
Thanks....

1. I've written on the message boards & again I'd just like to say I appreciate the attention the Mac platform is being given once again. Keep up the blogging; everyone is looking forward to future products and updates. =)

2. The only thing I use AOL for is the chat rooms and IM exchanges with buddies. Since switching to Mac OS 10.5 I have been having problems with AOL for Mac X. I tried the AOL Desktop Beta and was very disappointed. First I was not able to find any of the chat rooms and second the buddy list displaced everyone on my list with those on line highlighted. I really am not interested in seeing a list of who is not on line, only interested in seeing who is on. Are there any plans to update AOL for Mac X or are we going to stuck with this Desktop thing?
